Columbia police have captured an inmate who allegedly escaped from the Howard County jail using a cardboard toilet paper holder. Curtis Jones of New Franklin was captured Wednesday afternoon.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – A sleepwalking episode led to a stabbing. The Kansas City Starreported on its Web site Wednesday that the 24-year-old victim suffered a stab wound to his face and shoulder. Police said the victim’s girlfriend awoke around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday to find her boyfriend urinating in the closet. He was intoxicated when he arrived at his apartment several hours earlier.

Dog plays fetch with live grenade in Germany

BERLIN – A dog playing fetch in Germany has found and delivered to its owner a U.S. hand grenade from World War II.

Police in the western town of Erkrath said Monday they were called
by the dog’s 40-year-old owner who stopped walking her pooch when she
recognized the “rusty” object it was carrying was a weapon.

An Ohio man arrested for mowing unkempt grass at a public park said he just wanted to make his city look nice. John Hamilton said he took control of the situation because the grass in Sandusky’s Central Park was about a foot high. According to a police report, a witness said Hamilton was blowing grass onto the sidewalk and shredding trash in the park that had not been picked up.

Dog bowl focuses rays to start $215,000 fire

BELLEVUE, Wash. — Fire officials in Washington state say a sunny day and a dog’s glass water bowl combined to cause a blaze that charred the back of a home.

Bellevue Fire Department Lt. Eric Keenan says investigators determined the glass bowl of water focused sunlight enough to act like a magnifying glass and start the fire on the home’s wood deck Sunday.

Ramesh G. Khilnani, 51, a native of India and a Houston-area resident, learned that lesson to the tune of the two-year prison sentence he received from a federal judge on Friday for bribing a public official.
